Has the image been reversed ? It shows a RHD car, but I think it could be one of the South American "carrera" specials crossing the Andes. (Whitewall tyres are not really a British thing)

Not reversed as the numbers are the right way round. But you may be onto something as Argentina and Uruguay kept left until 1944 and 1945 respectively.

As D-TYPE stated, the picture has not been reversed and yes it is crossing the Andes, now you have to find out who's driving and what car.

I've never seen an "open" Carrera car before. I've found the results for the 1940 Gran Premio del Norte, but there is no No.44 (!). I had better start by working out which race - is it the 1939 Gran Premio del Norte?

Most "Carrera" cars seemed to be Chevrolets and Fords in the day but this has a little hint of Fiat, perhaps??

This is a painting/rendering, not a true photograph and is subject to some "artistic license" as such.

If you squeeze your eyes just a bit, it does resemble a 1937 Hudson front end and I believe they were sold in Argentina with RHD.

Yes this is a painting and definitely subject to more than some "artistic license".
You almost have the right marque and the year is close. You still have to find the driver and the race.

Not related to this puzzle, you mention you believe Hudson's were sold in Argentina, well some how or other, in larger or smaller quantities, just about every car ever made in just about every country in the world seems to have reached Argentina at some point.

Unfortunately I don't read Spanish, but it seems that the year is 1936, and the car is a Terraplane driven by Raul Riganti to 4th place in the Argentinian championship. The photo I have seen of the car does not show a roll cage and it seems unlikely that one was fitted in 1936 .

Yes it's a 1936 Terraplane and Raul Riganti is the driver, all you are missing is the race,"across the Andes". The car has Terraplane written along the bonnet and it's not a roll cage it's the hood frame, well the artist's interpretation of a hood frame.
