You get the point, because that's exactly what it is!

it was originally shown at the Paris Show 1972 as a

Citroen SM Coupè (1972)

but they prised off the badges, stuck new ones on and Hey Presto! - it's was a Fiat for its next outing!
Maybe they changed the engine whilst they were at it too, but I'm not entirely sure about that..
It probably never had one anyway...!

It was very similar to the Hispano-Aleman Porsche 914/6 mentioned by dzima1985 (a car which I see is also called the "Vizcaya" but I never knew that in 40 years!) but that was mid-engined whilst the Citroen/Fiat was of course front-engined.

The Porsche was commissioned by Madrid Porsche importer Ben Heyderich and I once had lunch with him, after which he took me down to his underground garage to see it, amongst his fabulous collection of cars.  A beautiful car hardly ever driven.  Unfortunately Ben was killed in a crash in his aerobatic plane, in Latvia I think, about 3 or 4 years ago.

It can be seen here:

More pictures of the puzzle car below; I believe they are all from when it was re-badged as a Fiat, although it's exactly the same colour as when it was first shown as a Citroen:

sorry Carnut: you say that the car in the picture is the Fiat 130 by Frua?
the picture you post is from the "Salon del Automovil de Barcelona (1975); another spanish source wrote in 1976 that this vehicle was a "Citroen SM Frua Coupè" and in 1976 "Citroen SM coupè Frua unico".
without controversy but only to learn more details for my Fiat database

The puzzle picture is the car as a Fiat; whether the other pictures posted later are of it as a Fiat or as a Citroen I couldn't tell because the writing was too small.  If, as you say, the pictures are from Barcelona then the car had in fact reverted to a Citroen again, that much I do know!

As I said though, it was exactly the same car, but when shown at Geneva it had a Fiat badge on the nose and was trumpeted as a Fiat 130 Coupé, and that was the correct answer to the puzzle!

That's right; the Citroen SM was of course powered by the Maserati Merak 3-litre V6, and Frua presented this as a possible successor to the Merak, or so the story goes..  So all those names could be said to be correct, including the Fiat 130 Coupé, the name under which it appears to have had just one showing, at Geneva in 1973.

The only problem is that there are no original photos of the car with the logo of Fiat ... :-\

That's right.  I did just read somwhere that the ONLY difference between the Citroen and the Fiat was the badge on the nose..
It was a simple re-badging exercise just for one show..

Norman, I was found original photo of the Fiat 130 Frua at Geneva in 1973.
In the background: Fiat 132 Aster by Zagato.
