What's this and who built it - for 1 point? (Picture has been changed due to re-post..)

Google Search by Image continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Search by Image as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

This is an MER special built by Les Reisterer of New Zealand.
A few were built, and this one is driven here by Doug Cross at the Pukehoke Grass track, probably in 1970

Largely correct.
It is a (I thought it was THE!) MER, powered by a 1293cc bored-out Mini Cooper engine and it is being driven by Doug Cross.
But I have a different builder.
Locked for you to come up with what I have.

Les Reisterer's company was named Matamata Engineering (MER is for Matamata Engineering Reisterer), so I guess this is what you have.
He build 5 or 6 and at least one has a rather gorgeous streamlined body.

Matamata Engineering is what I was looking for, yes, although I understood that it was Alan Pepper's company..

Well done.

That's a 1969 MER, designed by Les Reisterer and built by Matamata Engineering in New Zealand. The engine is a 1357cc A-series.

Exactly. We've had one of their single-seaters before, but they also made sports-racers.
