Is it really obscure or just kind of obscure? You tell me!

Congratulations! You're the first person to get one of my puzzles while it was still in the "Rookies" section (proving once again that I don't have a clue how easy or hard any of these are going to be for you guys!).

You've also hit 20 points!!

Thanks. To be honest with this one I just got lucky, I happened to see it a few days ago while searching online for something else. I know what you mean about not knowing how hard they will be. Since I was getting close to 20 points I've been looking for pictures to post as puzzles and I'm quite worried that they might all get solved in minutes...

This 'beauty' of Dutch design still exists! First date of the license is 14 November 1958. It has an air-cooled one-cylinder two-stroke engine of 228 cc, an automatic clutch and a three-speed gearbox. Weight is 230 kgs, and topspeed is said to be some 80 km/h... In 1958 four of these were built, of which two survived, and in the 70s another Shelter was built, using old stock spare parts.

DB #0018 - 1958 Shelter by A. Van der Goot

Here's an unusual vehicle with an unusual history surrounding its creation.
For one point, please provide the name of the car, the name of the creator, and a brief blurb on how it came to be.

(I'm interested in learning more about this car myself - if you can provide decent-quality images of the car's drivetrain and/or interior I'd be highly appreciative.)

It is the Shelter.
This 3-wheeler 2-seater microcar was built by the Dutchman Arnold van der Goot. The first Shelter was made of a sparetank from a DC-4 airplane.  With the financial help of the government he started the production of 20 restyled Shelters in 1958 in Ulft, Gelderland in NL. The Shelter was powered by a 228cc engine developed by Arnold himself. Due to construction defects the project failed. Only 4 cars were built.
I have two pics on my Flickr account, but these pics are well known.

Repost?  :-\

I'm afraid it is.
Limited reposts are OK provided they are a) a bit old and b) restricted to the Rookies section.
This is nearly 4 years old and you are a Rookie (!!) so am just waiting for your reply to be declared correct by bubenator and you are credited with your point then I'll merge it with the original.

Sorry for the delay folks, I had some very hectic work situations.
MrScharroo is absolutely correct - this is Mr. Van der Goot's Shelter.

Sorry about the re-post, I didn't catch it in the search results before I posted the puzzle.  Please merge with the older puzzle.
That being said, this is an unusual picture of the car that's very rarely seen on the web (original pic below).

I'm slightly concerned with you being a rookie, MrScharroo!
I've used your various Flickr streams as references for my own car searches!  The touched-up and colorized pictures are an enormous help when I'm researching, thank you.

Thanks for the additional images of the car as well.

I 'spose it's rather solved then.
