Solved - MJW #202 - Meteor 1950
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:39:31 AM »
This is a bit of a mystery car for me in that I don't know what it was based on or what engine it used.
A point for the marque, year and which company built it.
(apologies for the poor image)

A stab in the dark, but those front wings are screaming 'Healey Westland!' at me... could the body have been built by Taylors, who built the Westland bodies??

I would also love to know more about this car too!
A name and the builder (apparently) is all I have on this one.
The image came from a classified ad

This bares a passing resemblance to Edsel Ford's custom model 40 Speedster.

Another one that needs help to solve.

Clue - it's a generic name of a heavenly body and don't forget I need the year to give you a point.

Well it's not a Star as they were defunct before cars looked like that.
Same goes for Planet, only more so.
I'd say the same about Comet of Croydon, as they were around 1935-7 according to Georgano but as he says some were Abbott bodied d.h.c.s you never know.
No British Sun or Moon and there was a Meteor but it was too early.
Aaaarrrgh!
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Allan you have actually named the car in your reply!
The car dates from the relatively early post WWII period.
As a further clue it is one of the smaller heavenly bodies you mentioned (not Sun, Moon, etc.)
I'll lock it for you to have another guess for the make and year.

What we didn't establish was if it's just the model that's the heavenly body or the marque.
Smaller as in real size or appearance? e,g, stars look pretty small but are often huge and our moon is small but looks large.
If real size it must be a Meteor (smallest thing I listed) but I can't find it and please unlock for someone else to have a go.

Meteor is correct. Well done and another point for you.
As far as I understand Meteor is the car make.
The puzzle picture was taken from a period advert in Motor Sport (I hope it's clear enough to read)
