I found this car: Reflex Coupe Kit Car, built in 1987, from UK.

Yes, that's the car - I have it as 1986 but you are close enough for the point.
It was made by Reflex Sportscars, Cardigan (Gareth Atkinson) and used Ford Escort or Lancia Beta engines.
Produced between 1986 and 1989 and re-launched briefly in 1992. Approximately 18 cars sold.
