Solved: Kursaal Flyers
« on: August 13, 2013, 01:13:49 PM »
A few days ago I tempted Allemano to create a new Cars and Places puzzle. I think we can't have enough of them, so I had to try on my own. Here is the result, a puzzle about cars and places of healthy recreation. You have to find the connection as usual. Points will be awarded after all connections are found. Hurry up, your thalassotherapy will start in a few minutes.  ;)

The vehicles:

Brilliant.
Flyer J - the Nieuwenhuis Special matches with Kursaal 3 - Zandvoort.
The car is seen here wearing number 13 during the 'Pinksterrace' in April 1968 at the Zandvoort track. It was involved in an accident right after the start.

Flyer F is the "luxury" export model of the ZAZ 965 called the Yalta, and I think Kursaal 12 is Yalta on the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine, favourite resort of the Russian aristocracy and Soviet elite, at various times.

Flyer C looks to be a heavily modified first-generation Seat Arosa.

Kursaal 2 is the Kursaal casino and cinema in Arosa in Switzerland - I'm not sure that it really qualifies as a place of "healthy recreation". ;)

I had a holiday there some years ago, and I don't remember this building at all, so it's probably quite new. It's an attractive mountain resort - I went in summer (I'm not a skier). I'd certainly recommend the train journey from Chur to Arosa. It takes an hour to travel about 25 km, but you gain 1000 metres in height in the process, and there are some dramatic pieces of railway engineering along the way, as well as great scenery.

B is the prototype Devin-Panhard Type C from about 1954.

The connection is Devin.

I don’t see a 24 hour rule, or limit to the number of attempts, so I’ll file another try.  This time it’s 11 & D

11 is the Spa Solec-Zdroj in Poland.

D is a Solec Riva electric car.

The connection is Solec.

Wendax has started a new day, and I'm off to bed, but before I go here is another three pack (no I don't have them all figured out).

Next I’ll try, 4 & H.

4 is the Kurhaus Binz on the Baltic island of Rugen.

H is a Mercedes-Benz Typ 170DS (W136) by the Binz & Co. Bodyworks.

The connection is Binz.

Now I’ll try, 5 & N

5 is Spa Schneeberg, Semmering, Austria.

N is a Fox race car by Hans Fuchs AG at a Semmering hillclimb in 1922.

The connection is Semmering.

Well, what shall I say? All correct again. The Volcano island goes by Isla di Vulcano in Italian, so there even is a identity with the name of Icona's concept car. And Hans Fuchs' car was called Fuchs, not Fox, but that is probably owed to Google Translate.  ;)

Have a nice sleep!

Flyer L is a Dax 427 Cobra replica made by DJ Sportscars of Harlow, UK, and Kursaal 10 is the Place de la Fontaine Chaude (or Square of the Hot Spring) in Dax in south-west France.

It is not IF, but ZF for Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen, but otherwise correct.
