I'm going straight to the Pros with this one, as I don't know what it is! If anyone (Pros or otherwise) can provide proof of its identification, a point will be gratefully awarded.
I only know two things about this Ferrari 250 GTO 'replica;' one is when and where this photo was taken, and the second is what engine/mechanical base it uses.
American? Datsun-based? Sorry, two questions...
Don't know if it's American, but assume that it's not as the photo was taken in Europe. However, I do know that it is definately NOT Datsun Fairlady Z-based.
Shouldn't there be three vents on the hood?
Normally on a GTO, or an accurate replica, there should be three vents. However, I might be able to guess (although I can't be 100% sure) as to why this one has no vents at all on the hood/bonnet.
:o Not based on a beetle is it?
..or a Porsche? (can't be can't be can't be.....)
No, it's not based around a Beetle or Porsche, but the base car is rear-engined!
Based on a rear-engined ferrari??
A Renault Alpine ???
No, none of the above.
Fiat 850?
Getting closer, but not that.
Skoda?
the base is Italian?
Si, the base is Italian, although I'm not certain if the car itself is.
another Fiat model?
Yes.
Fiat 133 ?
Isn't that Spanish (sort of)? Anyway, not the 133.
X1/9?
No.
126
Fiat 500?
Metalshapes has got the correct base, which is a Fiat 500. Now, can you tell me anything more about it?
No, that was just a guess.
You already said it wasnt 850 based, the wheelbase didnt look right for a 600, and i thought it looked to old to be 126 based....
This one hasn't been touched for 10 months and remains a mystery, so it will be on its way to The Black Hole in a few days, unless anyone can prove what it is. ???
Into the Hole we go....
William Favre's GTO
No, Favre's GTO is too big to be based on a Fiat 500 as this one is!
Alpha 1 GTO?
Although I do not know the name of this GTO, I suspect that it is not an Alpha 1, as that is a full-size, front-engined replica kit car, whereas this is a smaller-scale Fiat 500-based If you can prove otherwise though, I will be happy to know more.
Sorry, my mistake. Alpha 1 is based on a Datsun too, and is powered by 350 V8 front engine.
No need to apologise; at least you revived this one to try and help get it resolved. ;)

Are you sure? So many details are the same - light type and arrangement, vents, bonnet fasteners, windscreen rake, windows, 2 louvres, etc
No, I'm not 100% sure, which is why this one is a mystery car.
A friend who saw the car at the 'ring many years ago assures me though that is a reduced-scale GTO replica, albeit very accurate, despite its rear-mounted Fiat 500 engine. Sadly this friend didn't think to make a note of what it was called at the time! It might well be by Favre, but it will need some proof.
I don't know either, but they look similar, but Favre is front engined, and according to some webpages, V12 or V8 even V6. So doesn't fit to your description.
This must be the 1:1.75 scale GTO by Carrozzeria Allegretti of Modena, powered by a 562 cc Fiat Topolino engine producing a heady 21 bhp.
Here are a few words about Allegretti's scale replicas plus another photo:
QUOTE
If building these little reminders of past motoring glories seems an odd occupation, be advised that it is something of a sideline for Stefano Allegretti and his artisans. Their bread-and-butter work comes, as it has for many years, from restoring "real" Ferraris, Maseratis, and other Italian exotica. Mario Allegretti, Stefano's father, founded the firm after working in the carrozzeria trade in the Modena-Maranello area. Mario's hands helped shape some of the cars his son now re-creates, and in fact he oversaw construction of the first scaled-down replicas.
In terms of numbers made, the Allegrettis are less common than the originals. Since 1985, perhaps 20 have been built, including 250F and "Birdcage" Maseratis, and Ferraris ranging from an early Tipo 500 Formula Two car to a more recent P4 racer. Customers have also commissioned replicas of the Ferrari 275 GTS "NART Spyder" and 250 GTO. There is, however, no reason for future clients to limit themselves to these choices. Stefano Allegretti will be happy to build a replica of just about anything on four wheels. If it's Italian, he's probably had at least one full-size example in his shop at one time or another.

:applause: Finally!
Re the question on the three vents on the "hood". Some of the early cars did not have these and all of the others had detachable panels which covered these cooling ducts up when not needed. In certain light it appears that these cars have no vents
Wow, I've been away from AutoPuzzles for the last 10 days, so it is great to come back and find one of my long-term puzzles finally solved.
Very well done Carnut, you deserve two points for this one, which I award you with pleasure, as this has taken over two years to solve! :applause:
