Solved - als_062 - Fiat 2800 Viberti
« on: January 11, 2012, 01:35:46 PM »
An "I don't know" puzzle.

For a point, what is it and who made it?

I only have some indications, but not so reliable...  ???

If I read correctly what's written on the hubcaps I should say yes.
But remember that this is an "I don't know" puzzle, that means that I actually don't know (or am not sure) the answer and you will be asked to prove it.  :)

Ah, and of course using Google Image Search is forbidden, as usual. In this case also because the only one source doesn't look clear or reliable... and this is the reason why I posted this picture here as a puzzle.  ;)

Is using books as a reference forbidden?

Of course is not.
Autopuzzles is against the unfair behaviour (to use Google Image Search is equal to cheat) but the research is more than wellcome!

Definitely Ok: it is indeed the spirit of the game.
You should provide the right answer because you (and not Google Image) know where to search.

Also webstites are allowed if you know them.

The only rule is that you can mention your source if it is a book or a magazine, but you should not post here a link to a website, because it could unveil somebody else's puzzle answer.

But now I'm curious: have you found something?
I'm quite sure I've seen it before (probably on a book) but I can't remember where.  ???

I have seen a diecast model which was loosely similar in a magazine before. But I have now realized that the said magazine has been cleared out... :-\

As far as I know, no die-cast model of a car like that have ever been made.
I can guess it was the Fiat 1100 ELR Van by Brumm, but I don't think it is this car...

I think that this vehicle is the Fiat 2800 Furgonato by Viberti (1938-1939): the emblem on the grille is like this:

Fiat 2800: for sure!
Viberti? My source says another coachbuilder, but I'm quite sure it's wrong. Looking at the logo, I can agree with you.
But are you able to prove it? The picture looks scanned from some book: is anybody able to find it and make a better scan or read the caption?

However, I think it's correct to assign the point to you, but I'd like also to keep the puzzle open still for a while, moving it to Pros.

Hi Guys:

I also found the same photo saved on my documents file as a Fiat 2800 body by Viberti.
Sadly, I did not add any other information.  I saved it in 2008.

It seems to be a factory "beauty shot" as we call it and I would bet it came from an Italian book or enthusiast magazine.

I will look further into where I might have found the photo, but I am betting that this is what it is.

Cheers
Bill

To be honest: I found it on the web as a 2800 by Viotti, but I'm 99,9% sure it's wrong. So I'm asking to prove it's by somebody else. I agree with you that it could be by Viberti, but it would be great to be sure.

Definitely not a bad idea!

So, 1 point for Thorax for having provided the right answer and 1 for Iluvatar to have proven it.

And in this picture... 1938 Viberti Fiat 508L van for "Regie Poste"... the same wall and gate is on the left of the picture... a few meters from the entrance of the Viberti factory... so... Viberti Fiat 2800?
