That cut down Oldsmobile Toronado is modified to be used as a Plane Puller, it pulls float planes out of the water, in this case a DeHaviland Beaver.

Thanks Wayne!!!

I thought I was on more or less the right track that the vehicle had been chopped off behind the driver's compartment but I would never have thought of an airplane tug.  BTW, the Toronado camper did exist, at least two different ones. I did not save the photos.

My motorhome has a 455 Oldsmobile Toronado Front Wheel drive drivetrain, which I guess is why I'm up on Dr.Oldsmobiles W Machines!

I always wanted a 1966 Toronado, but probably wont bother now as Jay Leno built the ultimate one IMO.

Sorry about the size of the pic, maybe a mod can shrink it down a bit.

I should go the PM route on this, but what the Hell.

That 455 must use an aaaawwwwffffuuuulll lot of gasoline pulling that big rig.

I don't know the price of gasoline per liter in Canada today, but when I lived there in 1979-1980, it was about 2 times the US price.  At least that was less than the price differential for cigarettes and booze, that was killer.

In one of your photos appears a pickup that seems to have the same drive arrangement as the Olds.  Was that a 4x4 with the back end drive removed?  And do you know what make it was.  Fascinating vehicles.
