To gain a point you need to work hard here, by telling me not just the name of the car, but also who drove it, where (location) and when (year)?
A car is for life, not just for Christmas.

MERLIN SPECIAL or "FLYING BANANA" . MERLIN = MERcury - LINcoln. This car, build bu Kenneth Hill in 1948, featured two seats in tandem, and was based on a Lincoln chassis et a V8 Mercury.

Would be interesting to know how many sportscars with seats placed in tandem have been made. I know one from USSR, now this one. Can't recall anything else on a brief call to my memory. Two-seater F1 and Indy demo cars do not count :)

(Assuming puzzle wasn't locked by previous post completely describing the car...)

Merlin Special, built and driven by Kenneth Hill.

Location is Watkins Glen, N.Y.  October, 1948.

The Merlin Special did not qualify to run the race.  35 cars entered, 15 started.

The site indicates he was online 2 days ago.  Maybe he has become another ghost...

Sorry for the long delay in replying folks, but due to an on-going problem with my old PC (now gone to laptop heaven for ever) I could not access this puzzle. Anyway, problem now resolved, so time for points to be awarded, as follows;

M630 (good name; I assume you like Matras?) gets one point for spotting this to be Ken Hill's 'Flying Banana', and one poin also to Sixtee5cuda for correctly identifying the locastion as Watkins Glen, late 1948.  Well done both.
