For a point, tell me the year, make and model (and series) of this vehicle.

Looks to be a 1972 Ford Falcon Ute from OZ with 4X4 drive.

Yep, that's correct. Just need the model of Falcon (series), and the point is yours. LOCKED for Bill.

Bill Murray

Sorry, post war Australian vehicles are a little out of my area of research.

I hope you are looking for the designation "XY".

Perfect answer, it's an XY. These 4wd's were made after the XY's had gone out of production (early 1972). They used a Willys transfer case and axles. They were all sold in Queensland, and in the southern states where I am, I've only ever seen a couple. Very rare, valuable and collectable now days.

That's 1 point for you.

Thanks, Craig:

I should say here that while postwar Aussie vehicles are out of my area, Utes are not and I have collected stuff on them for years.  That is how I recognized your photo almost immediately as a Ute and carried on from there.

As you write, very few produced and you can find on the net a few survivors although some are hacked up with later wheels/tyres etc. taking away from their originality.  I always hate that.

I agree to that.

Fascinating vehicles these utes.
But it always reminds me of an Australian guy I met in London many moons ago who had a girlfriend of German origin whose parents were unkind enough to name her Ute (a common German girls' name pronounced 'Ooter'); he thought it was hilarious having a girl-friend named after a utility vehicle and of course everyone knew her as " 'Ute" rather than "Ooter"...
