DENNIS FD4 Ambulance - Dennis bodywork

This was one of only 3 prototypes built: One saw service with Surrey Ambulance Service in Banstead, Surrey, The Second was allocated to Rutland Ambulance but was lost in an accident in its first few weeks in service, and this one EPH225J which was the DENNIS test bed, used as a works run-about until being donated to St John Ambulance at Kingston Upon Thames where it saw service on front line accident work, and featured many times in the TV production THE SWEENEY redressed as a London Ambulance. Photographed about 1970.

Well, maybe a little . . . The giveaway for me was the same type of styling on the fiberglass front end as Dennis used on some of its fire appliances at about that time. Old fire equipment is kind of a specialty of mine.
