It looks like a strange fantasy how to convert a stock Opel Ascona A into a hunting vehicle - was it a kind of GM joke x-mas card?

If it´s not an Opel it should be a GM design.

No, it was not a joke. It did evolve into a long-running line of production vehicles. GM is correct.

Maybe it was no Opel, but was it a car that was based upon the Opel Ascona chassis or its numberless offsprings?

Actually, there is a family resemblance to another GM brand product, from about a decade earlier than the Opel picture you included. The production vehicle that followed the puzzle illustration was not an Opel, nor was it Opel-derived.
