Hello my friend!!

A most interesting vehicle and I hope we do not get into another "name" contest.

Your vehicle is a Westinghouse-Letourneau TC-264 experimental vehicle tested by the US Army in 1954.
It is developed from the "Sno-Buggy" series of "Road Train" or "Land Train" group of vehicles tested by both the Army and civilian companies in the general time period.

They were developed to provide overland transportation of over sized loads in generally hostile terrain, especially desert and snow environments.  Most were powered by large diesel motors which in turn powered electric motors that were placed at each drive wheel.  They could be seen in 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 and even larger versions.

Unfortunately, they proved to be very expensive to run and maintain and they were extremely slow and could not maneuver around any sort of obstacles even though they were pretty good on reasonably flat terrain.

In the case of the US military, their tasks were taken over by so called "Sky Cranes" which were helicopters that could carry somewhat smaller loads but at more than 10 times the speed and could just cross over hostile terrain.  As well, the cargo usually arrived undamaged which was not always the case with the "Sno Buggy" or "Land Train" vehicles.

I post here a photo of a typical "Sky Crane".

Bill

Cheers
Bill

Dammit! It's a repost!
Nevertheless the name is indeed Sno-Buggy!
So I give the point to Bill Murray.
