I am in agreement with you Arunas. I have already been told by Wendax...that this doesn't stop the cheaters. So, no worries, my future puzzles will be fairly unblemished & clean looking. william ;)

Innerhalb von zwei Jahren bauten ihn Studierende von drei mitteldeutschen Hochschulen - vereint im Projekt "hydrokultur": Das Fahrwerk des "Nios" entwickelten Studenten der Hochschule Merseburg, das Design stammt von der Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst und Design Halle und die Brennstoffzelle sowie die Fahrzeugelektronik kommen vom Team "Fortis Saxonia" der TU Chemnitz.

"Im 3,20 Meter langen und 1,28 Meter breiten Mobil können sich zwei hintereinander sitzende Passagiere fortbewegen, ohne auf Ergonomie oder Stauraum verzichten zu müssen", versichert Fortis-Saxonia-Sprecher Jens Ulrich. Mit dem Fahrzeug wollen die Studierenden der drei Hochschulen beim Shell Eco-marathon am 6. und 7. Mai 2010 auf dem EuroSpeedway Lausitz an den Start gehen. Hier gilt es, mit geringem Energieaufwand möglichst weit zu kommen - und das im Wettstreit mit etwa 200 weiteren europäischen und internationalen Teams.

Zuvor stellen sie ihr Projekt sowie ein Model des "Nios" vom 19. bis 23. April 2010 auf der Hannover Messe vor. Auf dem Gemeinschaftsstand "Forschung für die Zukunft" (Stand C 37) in der Halle 2 wollen die Studierenden den Messegästen ihr Konzept präsentieren und mit weiteren potenziellen Industriepartnern und Sponsoren ins Gespräch kommen.

Point for Arunas. ;) 2010 Hydro Kultur Nios 3 Universities, helped to design & build this car. University of Art(Halle), Technical University(Chemnitz), College of Further(Merseburg). Wood frame weighs(40lbs)...882lbs. total weight.

The Nios concept is a fully working prototype of a hydrogen-fueled city car. It was developed by a team of students and professors at three German universities and colleges; The University of Art and Design in Halle, the Technical University Chemnitz, and the College of Further Education in Merseburg.

The vehicle took part in the 2010 Shell Eco Marathon in the "Urban Concept Cars" category where it took home the Autodesk Design Award for its outstanding design and ergonomics. As an entrant in the Urban Concept Cars class, the Nios had to be viable for use in the real-world. As such it has room for two occupants seated in a tandem arrangement. There's also a decent amount of space for luggage and personal belongings, and the stylish interior has been designed to be light, airy and comfortable, while also not adding too much excess weight to the vehicle.

The Nios is based around a wooden frame which is left beautifully exposed and forming a gentle oval shape around the passenger compartment. But the wooden structure isn't just there for looks, it also provides roll-over protection for the occupants, and a secure base for the suspension and powertrain components. Total weight for the frame work is a mere 18.5 kgs (40.8 lbs), and with a total vehicle weight of just 400 kgs (882 lbs), the Nios offers unbelievably frugal fuel consumption.

The DC electric motor of the vehicle is powered by an advanced hydrogen fuel cell system developed at the Technical
University of Chemnitz. With this setup the Nios can travel around 500 Km (310 miles) on a single litre (0.26 gallons) of fuel!

This is a very interesting car...especially because of its participation in the Shell Eco-Marathon.  That really caught my eye.  The Land Speed Racing team that I'm fortunate enough to be a part of is affiliated with a high school team that has competed in that event.  A very small team, no big university affiliation, but they've done extremely well.  They even brought one of the 2 cars they built to the salt flats to see if their aerodynamic improvements would help.  It was kinda hard to tell, because they ran a screaming 32 mph over a 1 mile course.  I think the timers used a sundial to time them.  Nonetheless, they're a great bunch of kids with a fantastic teacher. 

Since this is in the Solved section, I'm gonna add a link that has nothing to do with puzzles or answer sources (well, I spose it could if I chose to use their car as a puzzle, which I won't do) but illustrates the affiliation that the Target 550 team has with the Granite Falls High School "Manufacturing class."  Interesting name for a race team.  Here's the link.  I hope I don't piss anybody off:
