Erad Capucine CE 2, the second version (the first had fabric roof and doors). Produced between 1977 and 1979 by Erad in Douai, then Lambres-lez-Douai (later in Aniche but not for this model). Rear 47,6 cc Sachs.

I knew you would know  ;D

One more well-earned point for you.

Do you have a picture of the first version?

Another Erad in a group puzzle: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=19110.0

Yes, but that's a later one, the Capucine II from 1980. I'm looking for a picture of the very first version cmetisse mentioned, as even in the Erad brochure from 1994 celebrating the first 20 years Erad shows a picture of a Capucine like the puzzle car calling it the very first Capucine.

Cmetisse, I just saw that Erad called it a CE31 in its brochure. I know you are a microcar expert. Can you shed some light on the two different type designations, CE31 and CE2?

The complete picture with another Erad Capucine and a Norsjö Shopper, taken at the Störy microcar museum.

Yes, it is quite complicated for the first generation of Capucine !
I feel a bit sutpid, but I don't know how to insert a picture from my computer...  ;D

Daniel Renard started to sell his Capucine in 1975, firstly with soft roof and doors.
I've always called it  "CE2", because this is the type under which the very first Erad was road-approved.

It was modified as early as 1976, but the hard-top evolution didn't came before 1977, when Erad moved from Douai to Lambres-les-Douai, in a bigger factory.

Then, in 1978, the second gen was launched, in 3 and 4 wheels (for the first time) version. The biggest difference was the glasshouse, with black roof and pillars and tall, sliding windows. It was sold under the name "CE 31" (3 wheels) and "CE 41". But the types for homologation were CE 3 and CE 4.
This new Capucine was produced until 1980, with other versions being introduced, CE43 (some mechanicals tweaks), CE 44 (with FWD and Motobecane engine), CE 45 (RWD but Motobecane !). In fact, many things changed in the short production run : brakes (from cables to hydraulics), suspension (from a front beam axle to an independent one !), reverse gear added, etc...
Still, the so-called first gen with hard top was still sold under the name "CE 30" until 1979...  ;D

After another change of place for the Aniche factory in 1979, the range was totally renewed in 1980, with the launch of the Capucine CE2/50 (without licence) and CE2/123 (knowledge of 'code de la Route' needed !). The same types were used for road-approval.
But, in fact, it was already the third generation of Erad.
Later, we had the CE 3/50, 4/50, 550 Di, 6/50, Junior, Spacia, Agora, and some special models, Utilit (two generations) and Midget (MG replica).
In fact, I'm the chief editor of 'Generation Sans Permis' (and I'm proud to count Djetset as one of my readers !), the only 'voiturettes' magazine in Europe.
We're making 6 issues per year, with for each quite a lot of old stuff, as that's the most funny part of it !
I have to say that the Erad history is so complicated, with so many versions and endless tweaks with engines, parts, that I have not already made something very detailed about it.
Hopefully, I'll do something this year !

You have to click at the "Additional Options..." below the message text. There you can specify the pictures you want to attach.

Thank you very much for your information. I had figured out some of it over the past years, but especially the information about the first two Capucine generations is hard to get at. The confusing model variety confirms what I was told at a German veteran car meet where I talked to a man who has been knowing Daniel Renard personally for quite a while. He told me that Renard was very creative, but not very interested in refining his cars to work well.

I have been knowing and appreciating your magazine "Génération Sans Permis" since I saw it in a newspaper shop in Pentrez, Bretagne, in 2009. I always have a look at its content at journaux.fr where you at least can see the pages with its pictures, but you can't read the text. In fact I just looked through your newest edition just an hour ago and saw a picture of a pre-RJ Microcar prototype I hadn't seen before. Fascinating who you can meet at AutoPuzzles.  ;D

Thanks for the mention and great information cmetisse, and as the only-known English reader ofGeneration Sans Permis  magazine, I can confirm that it is a fantastic publication and a must for any microcar enthusiast, with fascinating historic articles and fun road tests of current cars.

If you can't decide whether to buy a new Microcar M.Go or a JDM Roxsy, or not sure if your pet dog or wife will fit in a trunk of a Bellier Jade Racing S, Generation Sans Permis has all the answers.  It is highly recommended, and well worth taking out a subscription. I just wish we had a similar magazine available in English!

Thanks a lot, Djetset for your kind appreciation !
I'd love to make an english version of it, but I'm afraid the market is not so big to do it. Even the french market in itself is almost too small to keep GSP going...  ;D

In fact, this magazine is mainly for me a way of being paid to go and meet some people who has worked for Mini Comtesse or Tomcar !
I'm working for others car magazines (oldtimers and youngtimers only), as I'm a car nutter before anything else. Otherwise I wouldn't be here, for sure...
Still, I must admit I'm a 'voiture sans permis' lover as old as I can remember. The only restriction I have in GSP is that I should only talk about, well, 'sans permis' microcars (and some 'code de la Route required' ones) !
That's the reason why I'm not making a lot about Messerschmitts, Isettas, Bonds or whatever brand from the 'bubblecar era', as these almost all needed a true driving licence (apart from Rolux, Solyto, Mochet, Ardex and a few others)...

Anyway, ladies and gentlemen, the very first Erad Capucine below !

In fact, most microcar enthusiasts never heard about these firsts Capucines. Mainly because Erad only made his first Paris motorshow in october 1978.

Sorry for the confusion -- I was just pointing out another car of the same make & wasn't attempting to respond to your request.
