The donor came from another region. And please differentiate when you ask about the donor and about the completed car. Neither the donor, nor the car was built in the 1950s or 1960s

Donor car a Fiat?
The car looks as though it's pretending to be a Mercedes with the logo on the front.......

Yes, donor is a Fiat. And yes, it looks like it's a wannabe Mercedes. We're getting somewhere here. Woodinsight: let me give you 16-hours to come up with the donor's model name and the builders' name. It is locked

Wow, that was the hardest puzzle I've tried to solve so far.......

I think I have the answer you need but only because I had downloaded a motorsport site some time ago dealing with the Rijeka/Opatija region circuits in Croatia and I eventually found the car on this site.

I don't speak Croatian and in my research was surprised to find that Fiat is Fiata in Croatian!
Anyway to cut a long story short, I believe this car was based on a Fiat Ballila (or Fiata Ballile in Croatian) and built by Dante & Luciano Saletnig of Rijeka. If I understand correctly the car was first registered in 1961.

That's enough for today and I'm going to put my feet up now and relax with a glass of wine!

You deserved that glass of wine :)!

Luciano Saletnik was a famous motorcycle racer in Croatia (Yugoslavia). He built this car on the basis of a Fiat Balilla 1100 together with Dante Saletnik. Sources differ on when this was built. The photo was taken around 1961, but the car is believed to be much older.

OK - somebody has to ask, so here goes: Is there another view of the car available?
