What's this, from when - for 1 point?

Google Image Search continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Image Search as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

Tornado Cars LTD Typhoon Sportbrake from 1960. Apparently a self-built conversion.

That's it, yes,.
I don't know who built it but I have the date as 1962 rather than 1960, although whether that's more accurate or not I don't know!

Here's the un-modified puzzle photo:

According to some source "Tornado Typhoon was a kit car based on either the Ford Anglia or MG-base, typically an open two-seater roadster body but the Typhoon was also possible to order the Sport Wagon, this hideous thing is from 1960"

I guess you meant this factory built shooting brake: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=8880.0
I think it shouldn't be mixed up with the home-built car of this puzzle.

That 'site contains plenty of errors.
The only brake that was offered by the manufacturer was the one in the puzzle Allemano pointed you to.
My puzzle is a pure home-built one-off.

I did contact the chap who owns this a while ago for more information but he never replied. You may have noticed the entire rear end is a modified Bond Equipe GT4 rear...  :o

Now that you mention it, yes.
I thought it looked awfully familiar!

Hmmm.... I just came across these images on a well-known 'guess the car' thread on another forum. Different registration but clearly the same car. You can see the entire roof section is taken from the Bond Equipe. I think it looks much better in this guise. Actually, I think it looks great like that!

Yes, RFO is an 'age-related' re-registration so the PPH plate (dating from May/June 1960) was probably transferred to another car as a personal plate when the puzzle car passed into new ownership!

I found another picture of the car pre-restoration with the estate body and the PPH 'plate. I'm going to try and contact the owner again and see if he knows who built this strange device.
