Looks may betray  ;)

For one point, please respond and just identify the base car.

No clue.

Obviously it is made to look like a Mercedes Benz, but other than that....  *shrugs*

Once this one is solved, hope to see some interior pics, too.

You are right about the Mercedes looks being mimikry, but I have to disappoint you about the interior shots. I just have another view of the back.

Well, crud ... I was hoping for some interior shots, too.  Ah, well.

Am I correct in thinking that the windshield isn't MB?

The windshield like most of the rest isn't MB.

Not a Chevy, and I don't know the exact model year, make and model is sufficient.

The writing on the bus in the background is, I think, in German.  So is the base car a big Opel - say an Admiral?

The picture was taken in Hamburg, Germany, but the base car is American.

Could the base car be a 1963 Buick Skylark Convertible? The windshield and vent wing windows appear to be a match.

No, so there is only one model line left between Tempest and Grand Prix  ;)

I have another one in mind, but I must admit it started life as a version of the Tempest.
