A nice automobile as long as you sit in the first row.

For one point, please respond and identify this funeral van by telling its base and the coachbuilder.

Looks like a top quality piece of kit, is it British? If so I'm tending towards Armstrong Siddeley (that mascot......) or Alvis. But the rear wings look 1950's Opel-ish. This one is a real puzzler.

Wendax

It is not British, but follow those rear wing thoughts.  ;)

Opel Blitz, late 40s, early 50s? The grille looks Blitz-ish, but those headlights, appropriately pointing towards the heavens :D, may be from a VW or similar 'aerodynamically' designed car. Das ist meine beste guess. ;D

Wendax

Yes, the base car is an Opel Blitz from the early 1950s. That was the easy part, which leaves the identification of the coachbuilder as the difficult one.

Southern from Düsseldorf?

Wendax

Let's put it this way: the center of the city where this coachwork was done is more southern than the center of Düsseldorf, but parts of the city are more northern than parts of Düsseldorf

The picture is from a book about motoring in Solingen. I haven't tried to find the company on the web.
