Can't be a real Ferrari, so I guess a home-built Ferrari look-a-like. The green car in front looks like a MG, but that might mean nothing. So a lucky shot : MGA or Triumph TR base car ?

Yes, good shot!
It's based on an MGA.
That answers the first part of the questions; now for the remaining two parts!
I'll lock it for you for 24 hours to see what you can find.

As far as I have been able to figure out, the engine is from a MGB 1800. The photo was taken in 2004 so the car might date from that year, it's from the USA (where else...., no offense to my american colleague-Autopuzzlers !)

MGB it is.
However, as far as I know it's not from the USA!
I have the info on my computer at work so I can't readily access it to check but I'll see if I can find it on this one too..
In the meantime have another look and if it is the USA let me know your source by PM!

Well, I have seen pictures of the car on internet with California plates, so I assumed it was from the USA ?

This must have started as an MGA not an MGB.  Just look at the overall shape, particularly aft of the cockpit, the front wings (mudguards, fenders),  and the bonnet vents.

It may have had the larger MGB-type engine fitted - as both engines were BMC 'B-Series' they would be almost interchangeable.

Don't think there was ever any suggestion that it was based on anything other than an MGA!

Apart that is from the words "MGB it is"   ;)

Yes, but if you look at the question before the reply you are referring to:

Can't be a real Ferrari, so I guess a home-built Ferrari look-a-like. The green car in front looks like a MG, but that might mean nothing. So a lucky shot : MGA or Triumph TR base car ?

I'll lock it for you for 24 hours to see what you can find.

That refers to the remaining parts of the puzzle question only, i.e. what powers the car and from where it came.
So that referred to the engine question only!
