maserati based?

Indeed it is a Maserati!
I'll lock it for you for 24 hours to see if you can find more details but after that, even you haven't got it, it will be open again.

Zagato?

Don't think so, although to be absolutely honest no coachbuilder was mentioned in my source so I don't know who built it hence I'm not actually looking for a coachbuilder; it might have been factory-built.
All I'm looking for is the Tipo that Maserati allocated to this model, it's engine configuration, when it was built and what it was in the Maserati scheme of things..

It's possible, although it's quite a bit earlier and the name hadn't been thought of yet..

Facel

It is a Maserati Tipo 104. Constructed in 1961 and based on the Tipo chassis and with a 3.8 Litre V8 engine.
It as a one-ff but intended for production. Only one example was constructed although never completed.

The Tipo 104 while on test carried the insignia 5300 GT when in fact it was a prototype 3800 GT

Is that the right answer you want to hear?
