Another easy Rookie point going for the identification of this car:

Google Search by Image continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Search by Image as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

Have fun!

mid 60's nissan silvia ???

That's it.
I had it as 1969 but maybe it came out a bit earlier.
This car seems to have been largely fogottoen; another picture of it is below.

Nissan Leopard

Maybe it was re-badged as the Leopard in Australia but I haven't been able to find out so I'm afraid it's not a Leopard..!

No. Albrecht Graf Goertz did the design. You probably know his BMW 507 and Datsun 240 Z designs.

BTW, the car debuted in 1964 and was built until 1968.

It's a car I really loved back then but it was never marketed in the UK, and maybe not anywhere else either apart from Japan.
The later Silvia Turbo was sold here and I remember trying one when trying to decide between that or a BMW 3-series; it was great but in the end I chose a VW Scirocco!

I thought they were only made during 1966-67?, or at least sold in Australia during this time. The one shown at the top is or was a car that was in Melbourne from new, It's a 1967 model. I used to run a wanted ad in the daliy paper (for a short while), looking for a Silva, this would have been during 2000-2001. The original owner of this car got in contact with me, and wanted to sell, but I thought the car was to good for me as I was looking for a restoration project. At the time, it was a daily driver and still in it's original paint. The next time I saw it was in 2006 when it was offered at the local Shannons auctions. This car, although it had some nasty rust, would have been one of the most original of the Silvias left in Australia. The only other Silvia I saw in Melbourne was a very badly dented up example, but still registered. One owner told me that while they look magnificent, they were extremely underpowered, and quite slow. Apparently they share the same engine as the Nissan forklifts of the time.

Australia had 49 imported, and some of those have since left the country. They were all painted the same colour (Inca Gold? I think). The body panels were hand formed, and made to suit each car as it was built, so panels off one car might not fit onto another car. Outside of Japan, Australia had the most imports, I think one went to New Guinea? and another one or two to either Singapore or Hong Kong. And I remember seeing a photo of one in the USA, taken in the 60's, but I think only a couple would have gone there at the most.

Thanks for that info; fascinating.
I note only 554 of these were produced, so they really were limited-production.
I read the advert, which describes the engine as a potent twin-car motor producing 96 bhp - not much by today's standards!
I also note they describe the car as having steel disc wheels..

Unfortunately you are not allowed to post links so I regret I've had to delete it; however, I've reproduced what it said below:

In 1965, Nissan introduced the pretty Silvia 1600 Sports Coupe with styling by Albrecht Goertz, the German who had previously penned the BMW 507 and later became famous for creating the 240Z. Designated the CSP311 and based on platform of the Fairlady sports car, the original Silvia was powered by a potent 1.6-litre engine with twin carburettors and 96bhp on tap and, in a first for Datsun, had a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. The Silvia was costly to produce, being virtually hand-made, and the high price also kept sales down. Indeed, just 554 Silvias were built in total before production ceased in 1968, with the majority delivered to owners in Japan. The list price in Australia was $4,390 in 1966, making the Silvia one of the most expensive cars available here at the time, but in spite of this no less that 49 were sold, making Australia the biggest single export market for the Silvia 1600.

I've since remembered that there used to be a very detailed website about early Nissan Silvia's in Australia (this is 15 years ago), and it's still up and running! The colour was Silvia Gold, not Inca Gold, and it also says that apart from the 49 exported to Australia, another 10 were designated for other countries. I wasn't aware about posting weblinks (sorry), but makes sense. If you Google "Nissan Silvia Homepage angelfire" the web page should be at the top of the list. Has a ton of info.

Nice to see some discussion about these cars, they've long been a favourite of mine. As a huge fan of old Japanese cars and very limted production handmade sporty cars, I don't think there is another car that combines these two interests so well (ok, maybe one or two from Toyota  ;) )

I've heard Canberra has had a lot of exotic cars there over the years, belonging to diplomats and embassies.

I'm sure the top photo is from the 2006 auction catalogue.
