Solved - NEH 1805: Katran prototype - 1991

What's this car called and who built it - for 1 point?

Google Search by Image continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Search by Image as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

I've found this one once as a Katran from 1991. It's a Russian one-off and it should be based on a VAZ 2101. I don't know if that's the correct name, because - as with so many Russian sportscars from that time - the names are different from source to source ....

If I remember correctly, entrance is through a canopy ...

That's the name I have too; as you say there can be variations and they're probably all right due to the alphabet differences..
But I still need the builder's name for that point!

It was apparantly a development (?) for the VAZ 2110 (or Lada 110 in Europe). I got this from the net:

The development stages of the Lada 110 began in the early 1990s, with a prototype coupé called the Katran 1.6i produced that was first demonstrated at the AvtoVAZ Togliatti factory in 1991. A lack of financial investment stalled the project, but the design of the Katran prototype was revisited in around 1995, when work on the 110 series began, and clear similarities between the Katran's shape and the 110's overall design can be seen.

So, according to this, AvtoVAZ build the thing in 1991 ...

I also found 2 more pictures ...

OK, I won't argue with that as I'm not sure enough of my facts.
I rather thought it was a home-built and have a name of the builder, but his name was also associated on the same 'site with another car that he had nothing whatsoever to do with...!
