Solved - NEH 1694: 1960 Electric Shopper
« on: March 30, 2012, 07:25:03 AM »
1 point for the Puzzler who can say what this car is, who made it, where and when?

Google Search by Image continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Search by Image as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

We ask all members to remember and respect this, and retain the right to ask puzzle-solvers how they came to their answer.

Have fun!

Yes, and it's a re-post (but it was only featured in one of my group puzzles http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=5589.25 )

OK, it's a re-post and I was not aware of that.
As mentioned many times limited reposts are acceptable as long as they are not too recent.
This one was over 3 years ago so provided it was limited to the Rookies (which so far it was) that's acceptable.
However, I regret I don't think I can award a point to luisps because he did not answer all the questions posed, but this puzzle has been brought to a premature end with all the other answers being given by Ray B., who is a Professional so is not actually entitled to post answers in the Rookie section.
In such cases where a puzzle has been reposted it is better to inform the poster by PM so that he can decide what to do with it rather than by posting the answer, which I think is unacceptable.
My first thought was that this puzzle should be merged with the original now, although since the original was a group puzzle I think perhaps that's not the right thing to do.
Sorry luisps, although I am still thinking about what to do.

Dear Carnut,
I do know that, as a Pro, I cannot post answers in the Rookie section. I thought, that agreeing at the most with luisps' obviously correct identification, I hadn't.
Reading again the question I see that you asked for some details that were included in the picture I've attached, and so I did. My apologies to you and luisps.

Now, about acceptable or not acceptable reposts, I believe it's purely a matter of opinion and I don't pretend to impose a rule about it. Neither should you, I think.

It's also true that it's best to inform the poster by PM, which I usually do. Here I posted directly because i assumed (wrongly I see) that this one had been solved.
I also suggest that you pay more attention to possible re-posts when adding new puzzles. The safest way is not to use the search function of Autopuzzles, but to type the identification elements that you have in Google advanced search, domain autopuzzles.com. I fouhd it right away with that method.

And of course this one cannot be merged with a group puzzle. Let it live a life of its own.

OK, fair enough.
It actually happened once before but I let it pass but this time I thought I should say something.
Suggest we stick to PMs for informing about re-posts.
I think it's right to say that the re-posts are generally intended, although some are not (incl this one).
There is no written rule about re-posts, more a generally accepted way of handling them.  It's up to the puzzler to impose his own rules regarding his own puzzles or the Editors to decide the general rules (which includes me..)
I agree about finding earlier puzzles and I'll perhaps try to change the way I search.
I may still give luisps his point as he did after all identify the car correctly and would undoubtedly have been able to supply the other answers too given the chance.
