It's one of three XJ40s converted in 1988 to designs by Chris Humberstone (he of the Owen Sedanca), for the Hatfields dealer group.

I have it as an XJ6 but my source may well be wrong on that.
1988 is correct but do you have the name of the coachbuilder?
LOCKED for you until your next reply.

An XJ6 is an XJ40; they were built by Chris Humberstone Design - the car pictured is the additional third car, which wasn't made for Hatfields (hence LHD).

Forgive my ignorance on XJ6/XJ40s!
This particular car was apparently built by a well-known British coachbuilder.
I'll keep it locked for you as you seem to have more information than I do regarding these cars.

The three Hatfield cars were actually built by Chris Humberstone Design (and not farmed-out) to the best of my knowledge.

Probably sub-contracted to a professional coachbuilder don't you think?
Anyway I'm going to award you a point but keep this one open for further discussion as my source may be suspect.

Yes, you're right of course.

I should learn never to trust the information on the internet without checking first.
Usually I'm using my library rather than the internet but on this occasion.....well enough said......

Thanks Trommel, I'll call this solved now and you have your point so on to the next one.
