Solved - MJW #886 - Turner Mk II Special
« on: April 12, 2012, 01:49:07 PM »
I don't know who actually built this car but what I need for a point is what make and model the car was based on.

Looking at the steering lock, was it based on a Triumph Herald?

Not Triumph Herald based...
It's based on a production car but much less known than a Triumph.

Hmm lets see what I can identify....

Right Hand Drive - either that or the wipers are useless. - Therefore British made?
4 stud wheels eliminate a citroen as a base car.

But the track is very narrow.

Base car British?

Base car from 60s or 70s - the wheels make this look like a 70s car but the base may be older.

I believe the base car dates from 1961/62 but the body was a later creation.

Not Hillman - the make is known for its sports cars (not really obscure)

Triumph
Ford
Hillman
Morgan
Lotus
Marcos
Berkeley

Okay, so we've established that the car was based on an early 1960s British car.
I should also confirm that it was based on a sports car.

Well that is a Mini dashboard poking up - but I wouldn't class a Mini as a sports car.

Not a Singer and not based on a Mini either....(except for the dashboard!)
