A sports racer from a past era.
Identify the name, year and the make it was based on and I'll give you a point.

Not BMW-based and nothing to do with Germany.

The car is seen racing in the country it was built but it was based on a make from an overseas country.....

The car was built in Europe and the base car was also European.....
Apologies - I was thinking like a British resident would!

Time for another clue methinks.....

Name of the puzzle car is six letters long.
The first two letters and the last two letters of the name of this car will reveal what it was based on.......

Well I remember a special called a Lamgia because it combined Lancia and MG components but I can't remember it looking like this, so perhaps it isn't.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Perhaps it is!
Yes it's the Lamgia of a Dr. Kennedy, St. Albans, Herts. built in 1949 and based on Lancia and MG components.
Very well remembered and another point for you.
