Solved - MJW #709 - Crossby-Vauxhall Special 1947

Base car is obvious, or is it?
Who built this sports car, what was it based on and the year it was built will earn you a point.

The base vehicle is probably c.1938
Not quite a Vauxhall though although it would appear so by the photo.
Not by John Cannon.
The car was constructed after WWII.

Well the bonnet and radiator cowl do look like Vauxhall, but the chassis doesn't as it would have had Dubonnet i.f.s. and this seems to have a semi-elliptic-sprung axle.
The windscreen is Singer Le Mans, which may, if it is a clue, lead to a Singer 12 as the donor vehicle.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Well spotted Allan, it has part of a Singer Le Mans body.
The chassis comes from a pre-WW II van though.
Engine is Vauxhall as is the bonnet.
I have a photo of the car competing in the early postwar years that I'll post shortly when I can find it!

Yes, it's the Crossby-Vauxhall Special built by C.F. Crossby c.1947.
