Full name - 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Series II by Scaglietti.
Ferrari built only six Series II 410 Superamerica: four were designed by Pininfarina, one being designed and built by Scaglietti while the other was a custom Pininfarina creation for Jan de Vroom...
...and a Merry Christmas!

'Strewth, I really thought this was a windup. I mean, those crappy looking stuck on fins? Really not worthy of a firm like Scaglietti. :-\ :-\

Yes I'd tend to agree with you there Richard - it would be a pretty good design without these "Xmas decoration type fins" and also if the roof was painted the same as the rest of the car.
It really is amazing how many good designs are let down by 'add-on' visual details........

In the 1970's, this car was stolen.  For some reason, the thief removed the body and disposed of it.  The complete running chassis was sold to a farmer in Oregon.

In 1986, Greg Garrison found the chassis and bought it.  He had the chassis flown to Italy.  Garrison spoke with Enzo Ferrari, who indicated he remembered the car by serial number, as having been created for Dr. Wax, distributor for Johnny Walker whiskey.

Garrison told Enzo he intended on having the car restored.  After lunch, Sergio Scaglietti and various people who had originally built this car, agreed to recreate it on the original chassis.

In 1990, the restored (recreated?) car won Best in Class at the 1990 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

(The story behind the car is online, and I have left out a lot of details.)

The restored car was created using the original blueprints, but there are a lot of details changed, compared to the original.  For some reason, the brushed stainless steel roof and tail fins look better, in black & white.

Here are some pictures of the original body:

That's an amazing story and really brings out the true story behind this car.
I'm going to award you a point for that and for providing the photos - thank you!

I agree it looks better in the B&W photos.
The fins don't look as though they're made of leftover brushed aluminium..
But they put the prancing horse in the wrong place on the front! Why?  Now it's just where it is on every Ferrari rather than being different..
