In the 1970's, this car was stolen. For some reason, the thief removed the body and disposed of it. The complete running chassis was sold to a farmer in Oregon.
In 1986, Greg Garrison found the chassis and bought it. He had the chassis flown to Italy. Garrison spoke with Enzo Ferrari, who indicated he remembered the car by serial number, as having been created for Dr. Wax, distributor for Johnny Walker whiskey.
Garrison told Enzo he intended on having the car restored. After lunch, Sergio Scaglietti and various people who had originally built this car, agreed to recreate it on the original chassis.
In 1990, the restored (recreated?) car won Best in Class at the 1990 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

The restored car was created using the original blueprints, but there are a lot of details changed, compared to the original. For some reason, the brushed stainless steel roof and tail fins look better, in black & white.
