Smaller than a Crosley!  Must be less than 700cc

NSU perhaps?

Who else made very small engines?  Fiat?
As it appears to be front engine, rear drive, is it based on a 'Topolino'?

It's not for kids, it's a full-sized (albeit diminutive) racer... and this is still in the Experts section!

The engine didn't start life in a 4 wheeled vehicle, and though I'm not certain I believe the layout is R/R not F/R

BSA Special built by Allan Standfield of Mascot NSW, Australia.
It resembled a miniature Jaguar D-Type but was rear-engined.
Believed built in the 1950s/1960s.
