For a point: What is this and who designed it?

I would like to know the complete story behind this car so there is an additional point for grabs when you come up with it.

It's Pier Angelo Andreani -Maserati Biturbo designer- proposal for a Chrysler powered De Tomaso small sportscar.

This is exactly what it is!
Do you also know the complete story behind this project (because I don't) for the additional point?

Only info I have is: "Epoxy resin mockup of a sporty coupe powered by a 2,2 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine for Chrysler.  1979.  Lee Iacocca can be seen in the picture on the right."
But it is obviously a De Tomaso, not a Chrysler.
Did this project resulted in the 'Chrysler by Maserati' project?

Interisting!
At first glance I was thinking of de Tomaso. The triangled side rear window and the Vallelunga-esk rear window – all reminiscences of de Tomaso's glorious days.

No, I do not know anything else, sadly. Asked its designer, Andreani, but refused to comment about it. These pictures are clearly taken in Italy -see the cars parked in the background-. I doubt it's Iaccoca there, it doesn't look like him, but still could be; he must have paid some visits to Modena to his friend Alejandro de Tomaso. This car was surely one of many projects that Alejandro de Tomaso wanted his friend Iaccoca to purchase, first while the second was at Ford, secondly, when Iaccoca got the reins of Chrysler. Most of the car projects initiated by De Tomaso were born this way, even Deauville and Longchamp were meant to be projects sponosored by Ford. Only Pantera was purchased, but some other cars were rejected as well, prototypes like Mustela, Zonda.... Who knows how many more, but surely I'd love to.

Before moving this to the Solved section, I give it a shot in the Professional section.
Perhaps a pro knows the complete story.

There is some resemblance to this K-car based GT prototype. http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=17865.msg179755#msg179755

I've recently come across these little news from MotorTrend which refer to the car and its engine.

I award you an additional point for that find and move it to the solved section.

But additional information is still more than welcome.

I think the front wheel drive K-car derivative is the FR1 I referenced in my previous post.
