It's for sure a Fiat Campagnola base...very similar to the one that went from Turin to Cape Town in 1952

I am not too sure where to go from here.

I can verify at this point that it is indeed a Zastava Kampanjola, a station wagon.
I found the attached photo on a Serbian/Croatian site that shows essentially the same vehicle but with no details.
What more information am I searching for??
Cheers
Bill

Are you sure? AR55 means "Autovettura da Ricognizione tipo 1955" (patrol car type 1955) and is a designation according to the Italian Defense Ministry standard. IMO it applies only to the military version of the Fiat car.

AFAIK, the Zastava is called "Campagnola", same name as the civil Fiat-made model. However, both the Fiat and the Zastava were torpedoes. This closed version can be some Zastava-made special purpose or a coachbuilt car.

Do you perhaps have the original photo without the flying saucers?  I'd sure like to see it if you do.

Thanks,

"Zastava 4WD Campagnola
This 4WD based on the Fiat Campagnola (AR-51, fitted with 1900cm3 engine from Fiat 1400), which followed the design of the original Willy's Jeep in using a front mounted engine, four wheel drive and an open bodywork. It was assembled by Zastava from 1955. All the parts were sent from Turin by train, with only final assembly carried out in Kragujevac. At that time, Campagnola was produced mainly for army purposes."

Maybe the version assembled by Zastava was the military AR and not the civilian Campagnola...

I agree. This should be the correct definition.
However, the Zastava version had open-body, like the Fiat ones. This doesn't look like a regular version.

Hi All:

Well, I spent another hour or so this morning trying to find out more about this vehicle but not with very much luck.

I got on Google.serbia and found many hundreds of photos of various types of Kampanjolas, all identified as AR55 models.
I think, therefore, we can agree that the basic "vehicle designation" is AR55.

Most of the photos show vehicles in military service and there are many variations with both open and closed bodies including radio vans etc.

The photo that Grob has posted I never found and the one that I posted is the only one of this variant I have found so far.

It is my opinion that this is a civilian conversion station wagon based on the colour scheme and the turn signal lamp mounting.  Who built it I have no idea.

I will keep looking.
Bill
Cheers

Hi Grob:

I do not want to beat this question to death with a club but.......

Your solved message indicates an AR 55 T-2.

I have Googled T-2 on at least four different country sites using T-2 as the key and using every variation I could think of, Zastava, AR55, Kampanjola, Fiat, Fjiat etc. etc.
Do you think that the T-2 is a significant clue as to the real story of this station wagon?
Cheers
Bill
