I see what you mean!  The Triumph Dolomite is a very nice but often forgotten pre-War car.

The TSSOC offers the following:
   
- Burlington Arrow, circa 1981 - a two-seat, doorless roadster with cycle wings (based on the MG TC) inspired by the
1935 Triumph Dolomite Straight Eight. Built according to plans and using a modified chassis from a Triumph Herald.
Later chassis plans were made so it could be built using parts from Triumph Spitfire, Vitesse, or GT6. Over 6000 copies
of the plans were sold resulting in an estimated 500 cars built. Burlington also made the radiator surround (nose cone)
and scuttle top, but about half of the builders made their own instead of buying them.          

   
 - Burlington Berretta, circa 1986 - same as the Arrow, but with fixed wings and running boards.          

so I'd say the evidence is with Captain  Slow.

M.F.E. stands for Metro Fibre Engineering. It was later take over by - guess who? - Scorhill!  :D

Reviving this one again before the end of 2011......
Is it a Viscount TC, the version with flowing wings, offered 1985-1986 by Viscount Motors, Bury St. Edmunds?
That used some Herald/Vitesse parts.

Gosh, it's been so long since this one was last touched that I will need to remind myself of its full name.  From memory though, an AWR is quite a different car to this one, but I will double-check and confirm shortly.  I have a feeling though that this car my not be in that book!

There is the picture of this car in that book, page 32...but it's also one of the few mistakes I saw so far...here's the description:
AWR: Short Lived 3-wheeler.
Classic Images 1990
Approx 1 made.

...and it's the 2nd time a car is described as a 3-wheeler and it's not.  :-\

EDIT: Probably the solution is in the Beaulieu: the AWR was a Rover-based classic roadster, while the MSR3 was a Trike and they were both made by Classic Images!

Yeah, I can picture an AWR in my mind, and it doesn't look like a SS100-inspired design.  Worth another try.

Yes, there are a few mistakes in the book sadly.  For example, look at the entry for Avante (a mainstream vehicle by British kit car standards), yet the photo is of a Nova!

It is a real shame, as overall the book is very impressive.  It is also a shame though that the book was now wiped-out the potential for any more British kit car puzzles here for the next few years  :-\

I have now finally found my records on this car, and I am delighted to confirm to PJ that actually your AWR answer is correct!  The car I was thinking of from memory was the AWE! (another British 1930s-style roadster kit car).

The full correct name of this car is the A.W.R. Roadster Special, built by Alf Richards.  The A.W.R. was intended for production, and was displayed at the Stoneleigh Kit Car show in the 1980s. However, despite the high construction and engineering standards, no customer orders were ever placed for the Roadster, so it still remains a one-off.  

Alf Richards went on to convert Range Rovers and Toyota Land Cruisers to six-wheel-drive, with BMW V12 engines!  Today he is still very active, converting VW and PSA MPVs/Mini Vans for disabled use to carry wheel chairs.

So, another BH long-termer bites the dust!  Well done PJ (with a little help from Steve Hole  ;)).
