Oophs, this one really slipped through the net, so thanks for the reminder D-type.  This car is not based on an MGA, as the base pre-dates that model.  However, it does use the engine of an earlier MG.

Sorry, but it's not the Reid MG Special.

Sorry for the slow reply Woodinsight.  I know it's based a pre-1954 MG, but don't know the model for certain, although I suspect it is a TD.

It is not a JWK Italia.

Searching for the answer to another puzzle I seem to have stumbled upon the solution to this one!

This appears to the the Parmenter-Buckler-MG special c.1955. A special one-off chassis built by Buckler for a Mr. Parmenter to accept a highly-tuned MG engine, with bodywork built by one of the 'in house' coachbuilders at Buckler, Dawes and Offord (I was previously only aware of Taylors making the in-house bodies for Buckler).
Apparently Mr.Parmenter was taken ill before the car was completed and it may never have progressed much further than what is shown in this photograph.

At last!  Very well done Barrett, a perfect answer.  As this one has been waiting to be solved for over two years, I will reward you with two points for your information (we clearly have the same source!  ;).
