It's not from the USofA...
...but from an English speaking country.

There's been an extensive timber industry in Australia for a long time. Is it from there?
Yes!

A bit more on this.

Having found the photo now, this machine is pictured in front of the Harkness & Hillier Ltd engineering works in Parramatta Road, Five Dock, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. There's a photo of the works below.

I think they were basically automotive engineers, but branched out into other areas, such as aeroplane engines. For a while they made the 'Australian Six' car, and one source says that they also built stationary and marine engines, timber jinkers, and gas producers.

I had to look up what a 'jinker' is. My dictionary just says it's the same as a 'janker'.  :-\

That turns out to be a device for moving timber around. I don't think the puzzle picture is strictly a jinker, but serves a similar purpose. They seem to be referred to as 'timber straddlers'. Hydraulically operated arms grip and lift piles or stacks of wood, so that the machine can move them around.

As Allemano said earlier, there is a logo on the radiator, which reasonably clearly says 'H&H', so it's probably fair to conclude that this timber straddler was built by Harkness and Hillier.
