It is the italian Rayton Fissore Gold Shadow, which was produced from 1978 to 1980 (Porsche 928 debuted in 1977). The Gold Shadow was based on the Autobianchi A112 (48 bhp) or the A112 Abarth (70 bhp). The car had 4 seats and the weight was 760 kg.

What's this and from when does it date, for 1 point?

Google Search by Image continues to raise its ugly head on AutoPuzzles.
For the sake of our newer members who may not be aware of past discussions on it, Google Search by Image as a means of solving puzzles is banned on this website.

AutoPuzzles is primarily a game of automotive knowledge, not of who can copy and paste the quickest.

Rayton Fissore Gold Shadow

Logically, yes, but that has been puzzled before.
It also appeared under a different name, which is the one I want in this puzzle!

It was a bit later than that.
Same body - different name.

SEAT Guapa '81?

Yes, that's what I was looking for!
Was it just a mule for the new Ibiza or was such a model actually available?

Unmodified picture:

Interesting how they took their car to the same place that the most commonly seen picture of the Rayton Fissore Gold Shadow was taken. Other than the shop rags over the wheels, I'd swear it's the same pic.  ;)

I also have it as a Rayton Fissore Gold Shadow ; I have no doubt thas this Seat Guapa exists (or existed), but are you sure this is a picture of it?

Think perhaps it was a Rayton Fissore Gold Shadow that was acquired by SEAT and re-badged for their use, even to the extent of using the original photos...?

I know it is the same picture that also appears captioned as a Gold Shadow, but it's the only picture I have been able to find (on a couple of different sites) of a 'SEAT Guapa'.  It may well be the only one that was ever badged as such?  But, of course, I'm only guessing... Maybe someone knows the right answer?

A few considerations: at that time Fissore was strictly involved in Seat design. Both the Ronda and the Malaga would have been styled by Fissore. On the ohter hand, it was the time Seat was moving away from Fiat and to survive (before Volkswagen's involvement) they were considering a lot of different initiatives.
I don't think the Guapa has any relation with the Ibiza (older, smaller) but perhaps it was considered as a possible evolution of the 127 out of Fiat orbit, but still using the same platform (that was allowed by their contract).

So was there an actual "Seat Guapa' build or not?

Who knows the answer?  Not me.
I suspect that they needed a car with similar wheelbase/dimensions to use as a mule for Ibiza development, and this fitted the bill so they acquired it and rebadged it to fool everyone then fitted SEAT Ibiza underpinnings.  But this is pure conjecture.
Has anyone ever heard of a SEAT Guapa being available on the market?  Not me!

The alternative might be that they acquired it with a view to developing it into the SEAT Guapa to market, avoiding having to engineer a car from scratch, but then decided not to proceed with it.

Someone, somewhere knows the truth!

Whether or not another company said they would build one, it's the same picture of the same car.

Merged.

Right. Hopefully one of our experts on the Spanish motor industry can help us with the full correct story?  Hondast?   Others?
