That's what many called it, but that's not what I'm after. Unlike your other answers, you didn't specify the configuration.

# 1 = (I think, judging by the sloping cooling casting in the cylinder head) is a Model A Ford (1927-32) straight four side-valve. That
modern looking windscreen washer bottle or whatever it is would not have been attached to the original, though ;))

Is No. 12 a Shelby Mustang GT500 V8?

And No. 10, a Veritas/BMW straight six?

No. 7, Alvis Straight Eight supercharged.

No. 2 Stutz straight eight.

No 8 looks like a Rolls-Royce engine. It's a sidevalve (flathead) unit, so it must be the 40/50 hp Silver Ghost engine, straight six, with cylinders cast in two blocks of three.

No 10 seems to be a BMW 328-type engine (therefore possibly Bristol) in a single-seater so let's try a Formula 2 car from 1951 like AFM.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

#12 looks a bit like a small-block Ford 289 V8?

Not a 289. As I didn't ask for displacement, I think I owe this point to neilshouse. It is a Ford V8, but in a slightly different car than the one he cited.
