#9- Illuminati Seven, 2010.
  • Built by IMW (Illumintai Motor Works
  • From Illinois
  • They say: "The steel frame and foam/fiberglass body were constructed by hand. (No, it is not a Volkswagen or a Tucker.)"

Yep - built for the Automotive X-Prize competition, I believe.

I don't know who built #8 but it's a Swedish-made Ford Taunus custom job. Quite horrid.

#5 is a hybrid petrol-electric tricycle built by Avery Petty from Riverside, California. It doesn't use batteries, but has a 5 kW petrol generator driving two DC electric motors (hang on, weren't Tilling-Stevens doing something similar over 100 years ago?).

Anyway, the vehicle is street legal, does 30 mph and 90 mpg, and is, according to its creator, awesome.

In fact he likes it so much that it's for sale at the moment at $10,000, though the advert claims it cost nearly ten times that to build, and took 4 years. According to his Facebook page, Avery is a cashier at Walmart - they must pay better wages than shops do in the UK. Best be quick. I can't see this baby sitting around for long...

I think #1 isn't just a plain Ledl. It is called Manuk, is from Austria, uses a Ledl body and a modified Ford Escort RS 2000 engine.

#6: BMW K 1000 sidebike with BMW 850 rear, built by Gerhard Buchholz from Berlin

That's the name I had for it, too. But I could only find one source, which I considered suspect. As a Ledl is a kit car, I'm not sure there are any plain examples. Each would be more or less unique, I think. Nevertheless, I'll give you an additional point for confirming Manuk.

It is a smaller-than-normal car, but not technically a Midget

No10: Six-year-old Paul Vilardi spins around a turn in a souped-up one-cylinder midget built by his racing father. The date is 1953
