It is a Bugatti Type 57.  It is not an Atlantic, it is not from 1936.

Sorry I interfered, but as a non-specialist I assumed it was an Atlantique, if not the production version, at least a prototype  - which it could well be described as, but I didn't know it had its own name.
Should have listened to Barrie Price a bit more attentively when he had an Atlantique and was writing Bugatti 57 The Last French Bugatti in about 1990

This is one of those puzzles I love.  Nothing is ever as it seems on autopuzzles.  Yet another learning opportunity.

At least 2 people built/are building Aerolithe replicas.  And if I recall correctly, the supposedly lost original was found and is being rebuilt.
