The basis seems to be an early 70s Sunbeam Alpine/Rapier, but hours of searching have got me nowhere as to the history of this one.  :(

Well, a Sunbeam Rapier certainly makes up part of this vehicle, but the answer is much more unusual than that

its the Martin Kent built and driven chevy powered Sunbeam Rapier in British Supersaloon races , the basis of the car was the chassis and running gear from a Gordon Keeble which Martin crashed in a race .
