The inadvertent posting didn't affect me cuz I was doing other things (fighting insomnia, finally sleeping, taking a transmission in to have the case welded, etc.)  Anyway, I thought your statement, "an twerp" was a typo.  Duh.  Antwerp was one of the European towns I really enjoyed visiting WAY back in the day.

So, I'm guessing that the country is Belgium and from there...well, it could be one of many instances where people went from Belgium to France, Spain and then Portugal before boarding a ship to leave Europe.  I've read several stories of people who did that...some in cars, some underneath railroad cars, others on foot or bicycle.

Antwerp is right! Now, what's the connection to this car?

"April 1940 saw the GM and Ford plants in Antwerp, Belgium bombed. The GM Continental Plant produced a few beautiful '40 Chevy convertibles. "
