Make: Chevrolet
Type: You mean model?  Hard to tell.  Could be a Master or Special.  I don't think any Master 85 converts were made.  If you mean body style, it's convertible coupe.
Year: 1940
Unusual?  The front bumper seems wrong.  It looks like a "blackout" bumper that was used on the 1942 models...I'm almost positive there were no "blackout" models made in 1940.

The other thing is that the dude drivin' it has more women than he can handle.  He needs help.   :lmao:

It is a '40 Chevy, not a Master or Special. I'm not sure if the driver is a stud like me - he could be an twerp, but that's not important in solving this one.  ;)

Looks VERY small compared to a standard 1940 Chevy, or are my eyes deceiving me?

It doesn't seem small to me, mymokke...but then my eyes might be deceived, too.

However, since Otto sez it's not a Master or Special, then the only model left for 1940 is the Super Deluxe...unless it's an export version.

So...is it a Super Deluxe?

It's regular size, AFAIK. The source I discovered said it's a "Special Deluxe". Not sure if that's a real trim level or not.

I'm not waffling when I say this: the type of car is not what's unusual - it's something else about this car that I'm after.

Is it what appear to be odd little apendages at the cowl on each side?
Could they be turn signals?

"something else about this car that I'm after. "

Let's try a different approach:  Was the photo shot in the USA?

Is it Princess Juliana of the Netherlands and her husband, Prince Bernhard (originally of Germany) and children leaving Europe for Canada at the outbreak of the war?

I don't think so. The picture and the car are from another European country. However the identity of the driver and passengers is unknown to me.

:sigh:  Hmmm.  Is the photo of people leaving a Nazi-occupied or invaded country?

I don't know if they are leaving. But the war would soon make sure that such a car would not be built again

Because of the destruction of the Rüsselsheim plant and the dismantling and moving to Russia of the Brandenburg plants?

You're on the right path, but the wrong country / plant.

Skim over my earlier answers carefully, and see if something therein doesn't help you complete this one.
