What is the first name of this happy man with funny goggles (I don't know the last)? Where and when was this picture taken?

If you haven't registered yet, you need to do so in order to reply with your answer. You can do so by clicking here.

Thanks!

Bill? On google it appears to be a very popular name for muffler shop guys  :D

Not a particular smart man, I would think.
"we stand behind our mufflers" seems to be exactly the place I would not like to be.

I remember a muffler chain in Orlando that used to have emblazoned on its trucks "No Muff Too Tuff".

Wise guy, huh?

I asked for the guy's name to make this a whuzzat puzzle. I know the girls' full names, if anyone is interested, so I could have asked this instead.
But the true question is the where and when.Finding what is the shop which "stands behind its mufflers" will be of great help.
Two points for the wise guys from now on: one for the three names, one for the time and place.

Is that Dave Mitchell, of Mitchell's Muffler Shop?

It's not Old Dave himself, but you're right about the shop. Mitchell's Muffler Shop is indeed the shop who "stands behind its mufflers".

Is it Duffy Livingstone? Is the picture related to the December 3, 1950 PRC Reliability Run?

Not Duffy Livingstone and not 1950, but you're getting quite close.

Open for all, yes. Otto's 48 hours are over.

Hot rod show at Pasadena, 1952
Illustrating what not to do in safe and legal hot rodding campaign, Sue Margison rides on hood of car driven by Pasadena Chief of Police Clarence H. Morris. Jerrie Parsons stands at side

Very good! I can't find back the picture myself so I didn't know the name was Morris and he was Chief of Police. I read the name by flipping the picture backwards (photographers write the subject on the reverse side).

Otto was quite close as the car is Dave Mitchell's pickup and I believe that the event was set up by or with the Pasadena Roadster Club.

The chief was living large that day. But the girls prevailed, and talked him out of the truck and the Jag.

BTW, the exact date was 20 March, 1952

Two things that we particularly like at Autopuzzles.com, for those who wouln't have noticed:
Precise, detailed answers like this one. And 1950's girls in shorts who do not try to look sexy (but nevertheless are).
