Yep, indeed the 1769 Fardier de Cugnot! The world's first automobile (and causer of the world's first traffic accident too when the driver lost control of it and ran through a garden wall...).

Where did you take those pictures?  I know the original is in the National Academy of Arts and Métiers, in France, where it's been since 1800. Was it there? Obviously it's not the same car as depicted by me...  :P

There are at least two replicas: one belongs to the Deutsche Ban Museum in Nuremberg, Germany, and a running replica has been made by the Tampa Bay Auto Museum, which presumably is the subject of Amsterdam's picture.
