Please notice that photo retouching wasn't invented with Photoshop. A brush and some gouache would do the job just as well. The bolcheviks, among others, were very good at painting out of photos (like the background in this one) guys who fell in disgrace.

There was some funny thing with extra leg at one of the photos I've seen (not related to this puzzle, that was something German, IIRC). On another version there was one more man standing

An independent suspension widely used on GM vehicles in the thirties. French engineer Dubonnet (of the Dubonnet Dolphin and the Hispano Suiza Xenia) had to do with it. Search these words and you'll learn more than I know.
