Title: Solved: Wendax 328 - BMW 328 Schlüter
Post by: Wendax on August 31, 2011, 02:23:12 AM
Obviously they didn't race at night.

For one point, please respond and identify this car by telling its base, when it was modified, by whom and for whom.

A bit of a wild guess - Walter Schluter's BMW 328 Spezial?
Possibly modified in 1939.

Yes, it is the BMW 328 which was modified for Walter Schlüter in winter 1938 / 39. Locked for you to tell me who did the modification.

Is it Gil Tyrer's MM BMW 328 which sometimes appeared in programmes as a BMW 328 Brescia.

As I'm clean out of ideas, please unlock it so others can have a try.

Another UK BMW special was the Willis but I'm pretty sure this is not that as it looked like this in the 1940s :

The driver is wearing a 1960s-era helmet. This photo was probably taken at a VSCC meeting. Back to you Allan L.

This is a well -known German Special built before the War by a wealthy Timber Merchant from Essen. Walter Schluter and was known as the Schluter Special, in fact he had two 328s It came into the UK with a member of the Forces after the war. It went through various hands and via Tony Mitchell it went to George McKeever of Witney, Oxon. Mike Sythes bought it from him in about 1997.
