Solved: Wendax 020 - Wiggins Special
« on: February 08, 2011, 01:43:54 PM »
There is more to this picture than make, model and year.

For one point, please respond and identify the car, the driver, the date, the occasion on which the picture was taken and what was so special about this all.

No vintage racer rookies around. An easy point for experts?

I am surprised that no expert tried a guess on this one. Let's see how the pros will do.

Could be a very early Miller, but probably not.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

August 7, 1926 - Indiana State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis, Indiana - Gold and Glory Sweepstakes

The winner was Charlie Wiggins. The car was the Wiggens Special. Charlie Wiggins was black.  But then, so was the whole field. The Gold and Glory Sweepstakes was held because blacks were not allowed in the Indianapolis 500.

For one point, please respond and identify the car, the driver, the date, the occasion on which the picture was taken and what was so special about this all.
